Obregón was certainly pragmatic, but he didn't approve of the deal that De la Huerta offered to Villa during his interim presidency (Gonzales, p. 187-88). Obregón didn't approve of Villa getting the Hacienda Canutillo, and, as you've noted below, he orchestrated Villa's assassination. Do you think that Obregón had to erradicate his opposition so violently, or could he have acheived the same goals with different means?
