Great point. One of the differences between the two nations is that Church and State were not initially separated in early 19th century Mexico when it first gained independence from Spain. The decision was made to remain a Catholic state. How has that impacted the larger-than-life role of Catholicism in Mexican society and culture, as well as politics? How does that legacy make the Church-State combination different in Mexico currently than in the United States?
